Thomas Peter
Thomas Peter wurde 1971 in Winterthur geboren und lebt in Zürich.Er spielte in den 90er Jahren als Schlagzeuger in verschiedenen Rock-Formationen. Ab 1998 wandte er sich der Elektronischen Musik zu; seitdem ist er im Bereich von Laptop-Performances, Komposition elektroakustischer Musik, Klanginstallationen und der Realisation und Interpretation von Live-Elektronik tätig.
2001 - 2006 studierte er Audiodesign bei Wolfgang Heiniger und Volker Böhm, ab 2004 Komposition bei Erik Oña und Improvisation bei Walter Fähndrich an der Hochschule für Musik in Basel. Er schloss die Studiengänge Audiodesign und Improvisation 2006 mit Diplom ab.
Sein Interesse konzentriert sich zum einen auf den digitalen Bereich der elektronischen Musik, sei es in komponierter als auch in improvisierter Form, und zum andern - in Form von Klanginstallationen - auf den spielerisch experimentellen Umgang der digital gesteuerten Klangerzeugung und deren Wirkung in ihrem unmittelbaren Umfeld.
Seine Tape-Komposition neugut.rand gewann den Preis des Elektroakustischen Komposition-Wettbewerbs am Musica Viva Festivals in Lissabon 2006.
Thomas Peter was born in 1971 in Winterthur and lives in Zürich. In the 90s he played the drums in different rock bands. In 1998 he focussed his interests on electronic music and since then he works in the fields of laptop-performances, composition of electro-accustic music, sound installations and realisation and interpretation of live-electronics.
From 2001–2006 he studied Audiodesign (Wolfgang Heiniger, Volker Böhm), Composition (Erik Oña) and Improvisation (Waltern Fähndrich) at the Hochschule für Musik in Basel. In 2006, he successfully completed his studies with a Diploma in Audiodesign and in Improvisation.
His interests not only focus on the digital side of electronic music, be it in composed or in improvised form, but also on the playfully experimental side of digitally contolled sound productions in form of sound installations and their effect on their immediate environment.
His tape composition neugut.rand has won the Electro-accustic Composition 2006 Award at the Musica Viva Festival in Lisboa.
